As an employer you have a legal responsibility to ensure the safety of your business premises under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. A test should be carried out by a qualified electrician at least every 5 years to ensure your compliance. This increases to 3 years for industrial units and every year for premises with a swimming pool.
What is an EICR?
The best way to prove your compliance for electrical safety is to hire an electrician to undertake an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). An EICR is a thorough test of your commercial property’s electrical installation involving both a range of visual checks and physical testing.
The test will identify any damage, defect or deterioration in the electrical installation that needs to be remedied. The test can reveal the following issues:
- Overloading or overheating of circuits
- Potential risks of electric shock or fire
- Defective electrical work
- Insufficient earthing
- Outdated or damaged wiring
- Old and dangerous fuse boards
Once your test has been competed, we will provide a test certificate. The report will outline any damage, defects, deterioration or dangerous parts of the electrical system.
EICR Fault Codes
Any faults found during the inspection will be graded by their severity when listed in the report.
C1, C2 and F1 codes must be resolved within 28 days. Once any necessary remedial work has been carried out, we will reissue you with a satisfactory report.
There are 4 codes as follows:
Repairs
We know that sometimes things go wrong and you need a quick response and repair to get your business back up and running. We offer a fault diagnosis and repair service identifying a number of faults including tripped circuits, blown fuses, faulty sockets & switches, flickering lights and more complex wiring faults.
Our team of professional electricians will be able identify and repair most electrical faults on their first visit. An initial visual inspection will be carried out to identify any loose connections, water damage or signs of burning. If nothing obvious is causing the fault, electrical testing will be carried out using our fault-finding equipment. If more extensive works are required on discovery of the issue, you will be consulted with your options and a full quote will be issued before any further work is undertaken.
